Certifications & Compliance

The Credentials That Matter for School Work

School painting requires more than a contractor's license. Here's what we bring to every educational facility project.

EPA RRP Certified Firm

We are an EPA-certified Renovation, Repair, and Painting firm. Any project disturbing lead-based paint in a child-occupied facility requires this certification. Many schools built before 1978 have lead paint — and working without RRP certification in those buildings is a federal violation. We're compliant.

Nebraska DHHS Licensed

In addition to EPA firm certification, Nebraska requires state-level licensing through DHHS for lead paint renovation work in child-occupied facilities. We maintain both EPA and Nebraska DHHS credentials — not just one or the other.

Background-Checked Crews

Every crew member working on school property has passed a background check. We can provide documentation to your district's HR or safety requirements. No exceptions, no one-time waivers.

Zero-VOC Products in Occupied Buildings

We use Sherwin-Williams Harmony and ProMar 200 zero-VOC lines for all interior school work. Classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias are safe for re-occupancy within 24 hours of painting without off-gassing concerns.

Summer Scheduling

You Have 10 Weeks. We Plan for That.

In Nebraska, the practical window for school interior painting runs from roughly June 1 through mid-August. A contractor who starts late or misses milestones means your school opens with unfinished walls.

We start planning school projects in February and March. Early consultation lets us assess your building, identify any lead paint compliance requirements, and have your project fully scheduled before summer begins.

Scope of Services

Every Space in Your Building

From individual classrooms to full building repaints — we handle all school painting with the right products for each space.

Classrooms

Walls and ceilings in eggshell or satin for chalk dust resistance and easy cleaning. Trim painted semi-gloss. Zero-VOC products throughout.

Hallways & Corridors

High-traffic, high-wear surfaces. We use scrubbable commercial-grade finishes rated for institutional use. Lockers refinished or painted separately if needed.

Gymnasiums

Gym wall and ceiling painting with appropriate products for high-humidity, high-impact environments. Wall padding surrounds and bleacher areas included.

Cafeterias & Kitchen Areas

Semi-gloss and epoxy coatings where required near food service. Grease-resistant, washable surfaces that meet health code requirements.

Building Exteriors

Masonry block, brick, precast concrete, metal panels, and painted steel. Elastomeric and block filler systems for exterior masonry.

Auxiliary Spaces

Storage rooms, locker rooms, restrooms, maintenance areas, and mechanical rooms — all handled with the right coatings for each environment.

Lead Paint Compliance

Pre-1978 Buildings Require More Than a Paint Contractor.

If your school was built before 1978, painting that disturbs existing surfaces is governed by the EPA's RRP Rule and Nebraska DHHS regulations. Penalties can reach $37,500 per violation per day.

We are EPA-certified and maintain Nebraska DHHS licensing. We conduct lead assessments before work begins, use required containment practices, and document everything.

What School Facilities Teams Say

From Educational Facility Professionals in Nebraska

"We've used Great Plains for two summer painting projects now — first a classroom wing, then the entire main hallway system. They started on time both years, hit the schedule, and had everything wrapped before our in-service week. Our facilities team barely had to manage them. That's what you want from a summer contractor."

Kevin L.

Director of Facilities, Metro-area K-12 School District, Omaha

"Our building was built in 1962 and we were concerned about lead paint before starting our interior refresh project. Great Plains walked us through the RRP compliance requirements, assessed the building, and handled everything properly. All the documentation was in order. We didn't have to figure any of it out ourselves — they knew exactly what was required."

Diane W.

Head of Plant Operations, Omaha-area Elementary School

"The gym repaint was the project I was most nervous about — we had a tight window before fall sports started. Great Plains brought an extra crew to hit the deadline and communicated with me every day. Gym looks fantastic and we were done 4 days before we needed to be. I'll be calling them again this summer."
